Mary Mahalow Yenchko 100 years of age, of Venice Florida went home to the Lord on June 18, 2021. She was born on December 22, 1920, in Ramey Pennsylvania, and came to Venice Florida, 53 years ago, from Hazleton, Pennsylvania with her husband; Michael Yenchko Sr. She was a homemaker and a member of the Epiphany Catholic Church. During WWII, she contributed to the war effort and was employed as a Department of the Army Civilian (DAC) at Middletown Army Air Depot, Olmsted Field near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where she repaired airplanes with rivets and sheet metal. Her job personified the “Rosie the Riveter” character, which inspired so many WWII recruiting posters and the book, “The Greatest Generation”. She also worked for a long time in the garment industry.
Survivors include a daughter June Yenchko Kennedy and two sons, Michael A. Yenchko (Linda Yenchko) and Robert J. Yenchko of Venice Florida as well as one brother Peter Mahalow of Hazleton Pennsylvania, four grandchildren, Chrisopher W. Kennedy, Crestin (Yenchko) Jessup, Michael A. Yenchko III, and Elise M. (Yenchko) Powell and five great grandchildren, Mission David Jessup, Zeal Fire Jessup and Nation Journey Jessup of Taranga, New Zealand,and Evie Powell and Beatrice Powell of Salisbury Maryland. All who knew Mary admired her unwavering faith and will miss her warm heart, loving advice and delicious cookies. She lived a full life and loved to share her many recipes with friends and family. She is deeply loved by her family and friends and was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mary was predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Mahalow, brothers John, Joe, mike, George and Andrew, Sisters Ann and Suzanne and her husband Michael Yenchko.
The family wished to thank Dr. Harold Kaplan and Dr. Joseph Balzano for their outstanding and compassionate care, and Rose Hightower for her companionship and friendship.
Visitation will be held on Friday June 25, 2021 from 4:30PM-7:30PM at Kays-Ponger Uselton Funeral Home 1935 Tamiami Trail S Venice FL 34293 with a chapel service at 6:30PM. Interment will be held on Saturday June 26, 2021 at 10AM at Venice Memorial Gardens.
