

Louise Robeson Conner Long, 94, of Wilmington, NC, died January 30, 2016. She was born October 21, 1921, at James Walker Memorial Hospital to Lillian Blanchard and Cadwallader Alexander Robeson. She was a direct descendent of Colonel Thomas Robeson, Revolutionary War hero, namesake of Robeson County. Before age 18, she visited all 48 states and Canada as her father was employed by Atlantic Coastline Railroad.
Louise graduated from New Hanover High School in 1938 and Women’s College (University of North Carolina Greensboro) in 1942 with a BS degree in Secretarial Administration.
In 1945 she married Lt. Robert Walter Conner. Captain Conner died in the Korean War. She worked for the US Engineers Office at the Customhouse (Alton Lennon Building), was personal secretary for Post Engineer Commander at Bluethenthal Field, and personal secretary for Dr. Witherspoon, Pastor at St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church. During summers Louise enjoyed living with her young daughter, parents, and often her sister and brother-in-law, in her Wrightsville Beach house.
In 1953 she married Edwin Godwin Long, Jr; she retired and enjoyed a very nice family marriage for 53 years. She was a Charter member of St. Andrews Church which merged with Covenant Presbyterian Church to become St. Andrews Covenant Presbyterian Church. She was a former member of The Stamp Defiance Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, former member of Easter Star, member of the Beaumont (Forest Hills) Bridge Club and Beaumont Garden Club, and a member of Cape Fear Country Club.
Remembered are her husband, Edwin Long, sister, Mary Eleanor Robeson Daum, brother-in-law, Robert Harper Daum, and nephew Robert Conner Daum, all of who preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Ann Louise Conner and husband Woodrow Rex Fountain, Jr. of Wilmington; cousins, Vivian Blanchard Gray and husband Eric R. Gray of Leland, NC and Margaret Blanchard Whaley of Rosehill, NC.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 am Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel with funeral services beginning at 11:00 am with Rev. Rob Lapp officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
