Nancy Yvonne Barnes Smith of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away peacefully February 26, 2026. Nancy was born October 19, 1940, in High Point, NC to Garnett Deward Barnes and Mary Johnson Barnes. She married Baxter Leroy Smith in 1968 and soon moved to his hometown of Wilmington where she worked in various retail jobs and in volunteer work with the Ogden Volunteer Fire Department where her husband was active. Nancy was a member of Freedom Baptist Church and is survived by her devoted daughter Karen Smith, her sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Stubblefield, two nephews and several cousins. A funeral service conducted by Pastor Dodd Mays will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, March 4 at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market Street, Wilmington. The family will receive friends at 12 Noon prior to the service. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
