I am Jagpal and Mindy's niece Bobbie from Kamloops. One summer, I remember, I had just finished grade 8, and my lovely thiyiji convinced Mom to let me go back to Winnipeg with them - alone - without the rest of the family. I was so overjoyed; it was my first big trip alone out of the province! On the drive there, we visited Jasper and Banff Parks, also my first time seeing those. I was super excited because I was going to take the Greyhound bus back all by myself! Thiyiji helped make all of this a possibility for me reassuring my mom. In Winnipeg, Thiyiji and I went for daily walks in their Linden Woods neighborhood and we sat together often in the backyard on their deck just talking. Then thiyiji and I would go for groceries or the shopping malls. We went sightseeing together. Thiyaji let us decide where we want to go and what we want to see. For some of the evenings, he let us pick which of the cultural pavillions to see for Folklorama.  Planning these with my thiyiji was the highlight of my trip. I learned how to make lasagna that summer from thiyiji and how to properly sort and do laundry.  It was a lot of one on one time with my thiyiji. But thiyaji and thiyiji came nearly every year when we were kids. We are grateful for all that time with our Aunt and Uncle from Winnipeg Then fast forward 20 years, when I went through one of my most challenging times in my life after marriage, thiyiji came for a family event in Kamloops and stayed with us at our house as she normally did with thiyaji - I remember she just let me talk and talk for days and days about the same topic. She let me fully exhaust my emotions and understood that I needed that venting opportunity. That was when I realized how much of a good listener she was, always so incredibly supportive and encouraging to my mom too. It is a very big loss for my mom. Throughout life, thiyiji was her sounding board and source of comfort too. A gentle, caring, & kind soul - that is my Thiyiji.

The love I received from my Mindy Auntie goes back to my childhood in India.  Auntie was very fond of me and I of her.  After Dad left for Canada, my mom, my two brothers and I lived in Langeri with Pita Ji, Mata and Auntie Mindy and Surinder for 5 years before we left for Canada.  Mindy Auntie took me with her wherever she was going, to shops, to visit her friends, and even had me stay with her in residence at College.  She taught me English as we prepared to leave for Canada, and  due to her efforts I was held back only one grade when I arrived here.  I remember Uncle and Auntie's wedding and got to go with Auntie when she left her childhood home to begin  her new married life with Uncle.  When Uncle and Auntie also arrived in Canada and came to live in Kamloops there were lots of fun family times.  Auntie and Uncle left Kamloops for Manitoba to pursue their teaching careers but came back home to BC every summer to spend time with rest of the family who remained here.  When I think of Auntie, all I remember is how kind, caring and loving Auntie was and how delighted she was to see you.  I will always have loving memories of our shared time and Auntie I will miss you dearly.

I remember when you first came from India and stayed with us and naughty me got into your things; when you stayed with us again after Donnie was born cause my mom was your big sister and was always there to help you; your place next to the best corner store in Kamloops; when you taught Punjabi school at the temple and tried your best to teach me😀; visiting you in Winnipeg and FaceTiming my mom with the “Mindy and Nindy” show and how well you and Uncle got on with my in-laws.  A gentle, loving and kind soul. I love you and will miss you my Mindy Auntie ❤️
