Mary was born on September 24, 1924 in Puckett, MS to parents, Phinias P. Polk and Mollie Mize Polk. Mary was a native Rankin Countian, living in Liberty, MS then moving to Pearl in 1970. Mary was a member of First Baptist Church of Pearl, where she was active in Sunday School, Merry Makers, and Vacation Bible School. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mary enjoyed sewing, flowers, and socializing, as well as the activities at the Pearl Senior Citizens Center. In her free time, Mary did extensive genealogy research on the Mize, Polk, and Purvis families.
Mary is survived by her son-in-law, Larry Phillips and grandchildren, Grant and Reed Phillips, all of Tyron, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie P. Purvis, and daughter, Jane Purvis Phillips.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Pearl, Mississippi. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
