Marjorie Spitzel passed into spirit on August 5th 2019 peacefully amid her children in Mill Valley, CA. She leaves behind four children: Diane, Susan, Bill, and Martin, and six grandchildren: Mary, Elizabeth, Michael and Juliana Spizuoco; and Martin and Nalani Spitzel. At 90 years young, she was the last of her generation in the Zenobi family.
After High School graduation, Marjorie went directly into nurse training at Hartford Hospital. At 23, she married her high school sweetheart, Bill Spitzel. Together they raised their family, while Marjorie continued her education, graduating with her Baccalaureate degree alongside her eldest daughter’s high school graduation. She was a lifelong learner and celebrated as the first college graduate in her family. She then continued her studies to complete a master’s degree in counseling at CCSU. She worked as an RN for many years at New Britain General Hospital, then left active nursing to become a nursing teacher. She rose to Department Chair of the LPN Nursing Program at EC Goodwin Tech, in New Britain. While there she helped over 500 women fulfill their dreams to become nurses. Many of her students were older adults who sought the skills to nurture the sick, while providing for their families. She paid special attention to help those who struggled in the program through to the finish.
She and Bill Spitzel enjoyed many years of` marriage before he predeceased her at the young age of 56 yrs. After that tragedy, she pursued her zest for life by lifting others as a laughter and therapeutic touch therapist. She possessed a natural healing ability applied through humor and caring. Her house was always welcoming, as she listened with empathy and nurtured with “coffee and …” Her love of live opera, theater, singing, and ballroom dancing kept her young. After retirement, her adventurous spirit led to Florida where she resided for 24 years and fulfilled a long-held dream of living on a 54 ft. boat! Marjorie Spitzel set a beautiful example of a life well-lived. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday August 17, 2019 at 9AM from the New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at St Joachim Parish, Church of St. Ann, 101 North St. New Britain. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in New Britain. Visitation at the funeral home will be on Friday August 16th from 4 PM to 7 PM.
