Joel and I were saddened to hear of Don’s passing.  For many years, Don was our housewatcher in Rio Verde, AZ.  He was very reliable, trustworthy and willing to help whenever an issue arose.  When our brand new refrigerator’s compressor malfunctioned, Don and Ruth came to clean out the freezer and were able to salvage some food for their use while we were back in NH for the summer.  No job was too big for him to tackle!  Don’s smile will always be remembered.  He truly was a Blessing!!!  Joel and Kendra Davidsen

Have many wonderful memories of Don (and Ruth) as a child and grown up.  I am happy to have had them in my life.  My thoughts and prayers are with Jeff and David, and their families during this difficult time. 

Don was a good friend to the Smith family for many, many years and I am so sorry to hear of his passing.  In both Rio Verde and Bloomington, Don and my Dad, Chuck, golfed, teased and toasted together for decades.  Their annual NCAA bet, which was for no more than a few bucks, took on epic importance.  Don was a joy in every interaction I had with him.  Sending prayers to the family from ours.

I have many fond memories of Don.  He was a joy to work and golf with.  I always enjoyed playing different golf courses with him and the variety of games he had.  Thank heaven Don kept score, as the accountant in the bunch, and would simply tell me how much I owed at the end.  

Theresa and I have so many thank you’s that we need to share with you both.  Thank you for scaring our 2 yr. old Steven with the loudest train on earth.  And then hiding that train where you knew he would find it and run away crying.  A brilliant move on your part as he now works on incredibly loud jet engines at Boeing.  And thank you for rolling our 4 yr. old Spencer into the ditch off your driveway in your golf cart at 20 mph.  Again, brilliant because the resulting head injury worked.  He is now studying Elec. Eng. at LSU.  And thank you for teaching Alex how to pee on ice in a Vikings Bar trough on game day in Minneapolis.  And more recently teaching Alex how to pee like a REAL Viking in the great outdoors outside the stadium!  Sheer brilliance on your part once again as not only is our water bill lower, Alex’s LSU medical internship is to take pee samples from athletes.  Thank you for helping drain our bank accounts at the annual Chicago dinner trip where we would spend millions on bread, soup or fish eggs.  And thank you for teaching me how to dump reasonably good wine down the drain because it was “crap” and not good enough for the occasion.  Thank you for saving me from that vinegar!   And lastly, thank you Ruth for the flaming garlic bread at every dinner, your clock and time management skills are second to none!  :)  

Don, you and Ruth meant the world to Theresa and I.  You gave us our careers at State Farm.  When we moved to Bloomington at 22 you adopted us into your family as a son and daughter!  You were parents, friends and mentors and helped us raise 3 amazing children.  We had fantastic times at Crestwicke for Mother’s Day and Easter brunches.  We loved our Christmas after Christmas events, fondue nights, the Ironman in Arizona, golfing, Napa Valley, etc. 

Theresa and I will toast both you and Ruth tonight with our best bottle of Chardonnay.  We are blessed that God put you in our lives.  God bless the Blessing family, we love you forever!



I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of Don.  I had the pleasure of working for him quite a few years ago at State Farm.  He will be missed.  Condolences to Jeff, Karen, Blake, Kelly, Brenna, and to all of his family and friends to whom I am not acquainted.
