June E. Costa

June E. (Lofthouse) Costa, 88, of Marion and formerly of New Bedford passed away, with her family by her side Friday, May 15, 2020 in Sippican Health Care Center. She was the loving wife of the late John B. Costa, to whom she was married for 64 remarkable years.

Born in New Bedford, a daughter of the late Joseph and Emily (Holgate) Lofthouse she lived most of her life in New Bedford. She was an active member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church for many years, alongside her husband Johnny.

June was a rock to her husband and children, and fully supported and encouraged them in each of their endeavors.

June was an office manager for the former Karten’s Jewelers in Dartmouth. She also worked 18 years at Rodney Metals. When her children were younger, she was active in the NBHS Whalers Marching Band Parents Group. She also loved to sew, created beautiful embroidery pieces and recently claimed, “I am more artistic than I realized”. She shared her painting and coloring artwork with everyone, filling the walls with her prized possessions at Sippican.

June was a proud woman who always loved to look her best. She could always be found with her hair styled, nails polished and beautiful bright lipstick. Her life at Sippican with her husband Johnny was very fulfilling. She could be found selling raffle tickets, knitting purses for her two sets of twin great granddaughters, having tea socials, or sitting on the patio in the sunshine. She was often caught sneaking a purchase for a new piece of jewelry at their silver sales.

June enjoyed many outings with her family, and always loved a great lobster roll and chowder! Nothing made her more delighted than visits from her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was immensely proud of her family and deeply touched everyone she loved.

June is survived by; a son, Michael Costa and his wife Joanne of Acushnet; two daughters, Joanne Pratt and her husband Don of Mattapoisett and Barbara Pereira and her husband Amandio of Dartmouth; one sister, Ellen Furtado of Dartmouth; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late David A. Costa and Brian A. Costa and the sister of the late Samuel Lofthouse, Rachel Atwood, and Robert Lofthouse.
