Loyd George Cooper, 71, passed away Jan. 11, 2021 at his home in Indianapolis. He was the son of Oral Vernie and Anna May Cooper of Indianapolis, who preceded him in death.
A U.S. Army veteran, Loyd served three tours of duty in the Vietnam War, receiving merit citations and medals of honor such as the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with five Campaign Stars, three Overseas Service Bars, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Loyd worked as a sculptor and engraver. He enjoyed a natural facility in many creative art projects throughout his lifetime. An avid student of history, he was fascinated with Roman history and the country Italy. He was a great husband, brother, friend, and uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Survivors are Ricky Catamora-husband; his brothers Arnold Paul Cooper and Michael William Cooper and sisters Jeanette May Stinnett, Joanne Gilley and Peggy Lucille Burruss and his special cousin Betty Root; nephews James Richard Shaw Ottinger and Joseph L. Ottinger Jr. and his niece Paula Cooper. Many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be at the VA Cemetery in Marion, Indiana. No memorial services are scheduled at present.
