Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Virginia, provides a place of respite and reflection for families across Northern Virginia in a tradition dating back to 1945.

You’ll find comfort and natural beauty in the tall trees and bright flowers that border our gardens. Stroll through our paved walkways to encounter intricately detailed stone statues and artwork throughout the park, including the Last Supper feature in our Mount Eagle Garden.

We honor veterans

Mount Comfort Cemetery understands the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Burial options for every family

Whether you prefer traditional in-ground burial with a flush marker or artful raised monument, single plots, above-ground burial or mausoleum selections, there are plenty of cemetery property options to choose from. We offer family estates as a way to gift future generations the reassurance of one central place to gather in reflection.

Those who choose cremation may opt for burial of cremated remains in our cremation garden areas, columbaria or cremation niches. Mausoleums on our property, including the mausoleum in our dedicated Masonic Garden, stand as stately above-ground burials built to withstand the elements through the ages.

Mount Comfort Cemetery also houses a dedicated Muslim Garden, honoring Islamic rituals and traditions.

Annual events

We hold several events throughout the year that all are invited to attend. Every year, we commemorate the service and sacrifice of our men and women of the armed forces by flying over 400 veterans’ flags in an event we call Avenue of Flags. Our Easter Sunday Sunrise Service, in conjunction with Bethany Lutheran Church, draws hundreds of area residents in an over-50-year tradition. In addition, we annually honor all our mothers with a floral remembrance for Mother’s Day.

History

Chartered as a cemetery in 1945, Mount Comfort Cemetery exists on historic property. Situated on one of 2 subdivisions that was originally the Cleish Estate, the land on which the cemetery sits was at one time administered by George Washington. Founded on the banks of the Great Huntington Creek by the sons of the Earl of Tankerville, we are situated near Mount Vernon. Our 51-acre park is the highest point in Fairfax County.
