A native of southern Indiana, Joseph is part of a large extended family who has been involved in the funeral business since 1856. He began working in a funeral home as part of the night cleaning crew at age 14. Not long after, he became a greeter and funeral assistant, roles he held through high school. He then attended Mid-America College of Funeral Service, where he received the Academic Achievement Award. Joseph moved to Indianapolis in the 2017.

When he is not working, Joseph likes to go golfing, snow skiing, camping and fishing. He is a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Northside Knights of Columbus.
