À propos

Evergreen Funeral Home and Evergreen Cemetery strive to be Louisville’s finest. With the goal of serving families with the utmost dignity and kindness, our experienced teams celebrate unique lives with unique services and memorials. Working together, this Louisville funeral home and cemetery allow you to handle all your funeral and burial needs with teams who truly care.

A convenient Louisville funeral home

Chapel at Evergreen Funeral HomeEvergreen Funeral Home sits on the grounds of the historic Evergreen Cemetery. Centrally located right in the middle of Louisville, on Preston Highway, at the intersection of interstates 65 and 264, Evergreen Funeral Home is no more than a 20-minute drive from any part of the city. We are only 2 miles from Louisville International Airport, so friends and family who fly in can easily navigate to us (or we will happily send a car to get them).

Reception room at Evergreen Funeral HomeModern and bright, the funeral home has 2 chapels and 2 lounges. The permanent chapel has bench seating for 250 people and a stained glass triptych depicting a verdant forest scene at the front of the room. A smaller chapel suits more intimate services. A 2017 remodel gave us a large community lounge that holds up to 60 guests. It is available for fellowship during a visitation or before or after a memorial—anything from a catered meal to a televised ballgame. (We’ll bring in favorite snacks, a full-service dinner or something in between.) There’s even a section for kids to watch movies.

We celebrate life

Every funeral or memorial service that we help create is personalized for the individual. At Evergreen Funeral Home, we believe that funeral services can go beyond what’s expected, which is why our team takes the time to ask questions, gather information and find extra-special ways to give an event a personal touch. We are innovative thinkers who will honor your horse racing fanatic, baseball lover, bookworm or green thumb in an uncommon and wonderfully memorable way.

We honor veterans

Evergreen Funeral Home understands the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Cremation services

Not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and different options. From a direct cremation without a memorial service or a witness cremation to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common choice—and handle all of the cremation arrangements.

Our comfort dog

Research has shown that petting a dog can lower stress levels, reduce blood pressure and lift spirits. Knowing that the death of a loved one is one of the more stressful and sad times in anyone’s life, we adopted a dog and made it a part of the team at Evergreen Funeral Home. In training as a comfort dog—and proven to bring moments of joy in difficult situations—our dog is available to spend time with your family and friends during funeral home visitations. All you need to do is ask.

Always here for you

Evergreen Cemetery

Founded in 1912, Evergreen Cemetery has served as a beautiful final resting place for more than a century. From our 1st interment in 1914 to our most recent—a number that exceeds 60,000—our commitment to the Louisville community has never wavered. Our peaceful, park-like property is the burial site of a number of notable people, including Major League Baseball infielder Irv Jeffries, legendary soul singer Wilson Pickett, actor Rag Ragland, horse promoter William H. King and Country Music Hall of Famer Randy Atcher. But the cemetery is a place for all people, regardless of social, cultural or religious background.

Memorial and burial options

Mausoleum at Evergreen CemeteryEvergreen Cemetery sits on 134 acres and offers a range of burial options. Whether you choose in-ground interment, above-ground entombment or inurnment, we have a choice that honors your family’s tradition.

The community mausoleum at Evergreen Cemetery was the 1st public mausoleum building in the state of Kentucky when it was constructed in 1921, and it is the oldest community mausoleum in North America. Over the years, we’ve developed approximately 15,000 mausoleum crypt spaces. Chapel of the Apostles is part of the Apostles Mausoleum complex, which will eventually include 13 buildings—and many more crypts and cremation niches. The chapel includes interior and exterior crypts for individuals, couples and families.

Other areas of the cemetery property are reserved for in-ground burials with flat markers and upright monuments. Private estates allow a family to fully customize.

Sweeping green lawns and beautiful gardens

Special landscaping feature at Evergreen CemeteryMany of the gardens on our expansive property include an architectural or monumental feature as a focal point. The Garden of Time has a bronze sundial. A marble statue of St. Francis of Assisi presides over the Bird Sanctuary. In the Garden of Devotion, open Bibles of solid granite feature The Lord’s Prayer and the 23rd Psalm. There are many more.

Any honorably discharged veteran—as well as that person’s spouse or children—may be buried in our Veterans Garden, which lies at the east end of the cemetery property.Veterans section at Evergreen Cemetery

Our newest garden is Garden of Angels II. It has the largest selection of available spaces and accommodates both traditional upright granite monuments and flat bronze memorials.

Come see for yourself

The historic Evergreen Cemetery still has plenty of space for future generations. We invite you to tour our historical and well-cared-for property. You are welcome to visit anytime, and if you would like a guided tour and more information about our cemetery services, please call us.

Meaningful and fun community events

Besides providing compassionate care, the teams at Evergreen Funeral Home and Evergreen Cemetery also wants to create good memories for you, your family and your friends. To that end, we host a couple of annual events that bring people together for fellowship and fun. Our annual holiday candlelight service fills our chapel with the sights and sounds of the season and provides a moment of reflection on loved ones lost. Our yearly Easter egg hunt, held on the Saturday prior to Easter Sunday, is free to everyone in Louisville and draws 100s of children for arts and crafts, refreshments, photos with the Easter bunny and, of course, a great big egg hunting bonanza complete with prizes.
