History

In 1910, John B. Hazen and Charles P. Jaeger opened Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home in Spokane, Washington. The business operated with a motto: "Courtesy, Kindness and Respect." The business was so well received in the Spokane community that by the early 1950s, Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home was helping more than 1,000 families each year from just 1 location. To better serve the communities to the east of Spokane, Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home was built and opened in 1955.

A modern setting

Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home was beautifully designed with elegance in mind. The new, modern facility was built with concern for the many needs of a growing community.

Constructed in the midst of the Korean War and national fears of nuclear war, the funeral home was designed to serve as an air raid shelter as well as a triage hospital should the need arise. Over the years, the facility has been a center for many community activities in addition to funeral services, such as concerts, scrapbooking groups and service club meetings.
