There are many cremation providers—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

• Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
• Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial^®; providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
• Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

Now offering human composting

A new choice for nature lovers, conservationists and those who want to protect the planet for future generations, human composting is an alternative to burial and cremation. Inside a vessel created especially for this purpose, organic elements, such as wood chips, mulch and wildflowers, gently transform a body into nutrient-rich soil. Your family may choose to use this soil to plant trees or flowers, or you can place it in a location meaningful to you. The remaining soil is sent to conservation land on the Olympic Peninsula to aid projects such as reforestation, improving soil health and restoring challenged ecosystems.

History

The Weller Funeral Home began as a hardware store in Arlington in 1904 by Charles H. Bakeman and Arthur H. Moll. Charles H. Bakeman, known as Charlie, was one of the first funeral directors in the Washington Territory. He settled in Snohomish in 1883 and opened a carriage and furniture making store. In 1884 a settler came in to Bakeman's shop and asked him to provide an emergency casket. With this request, Bakeman started a small side casket-making business.

A commitment to caring for community

In January of 1884, he expanded his business to include funeral directing. In 1905, Bakeman and Arthur Moll launched the funeral business officially. The letterhead on their business stationary suggests the diversity of enterprises they were engaged in: “Bakeman & Moll Hardware, Furniture, Carpets and Undertaking.” In 1961, Athur Moll sold the Moll Funeral Home to Lloyd Solie and Robert Weller from Everett, knowing Lloyd and Robert would uphold the same family-run values and traditions the Arlington community had come to trust with all of their funeral and burial needs.

Moll Funeral Home would become Weller & Solie Funeral Home. The Wellers operated the Home and even lived in an attached apartment with their family of three children while there. The Wellers purchased the interest of Mr. Solie and renamed the funeral home to Weller Funeral Home in the late 1960s. During the early sixties, the Board of Directors of Arlington Cemetery Association requested Mr. Weller assume the Presidency of the Association to manage the day-to-day operation of the cemetery. He remained in this role for 25 years.

Honoring the lives of our veterans

The Arlington Cemetery Association donated the cemetery to the City of Arlington in 1998. During his association with the Arlington Cemetery, he enlarged the cemetery several times, and with the assistance of John Jensen, an active Member of the Arlington Post of the American Legion, established the "Avenue of Flags" which today has over 400 flags of deceased veterans flying in the cemetery on Memorial Day.

In 1972, the Weller Family enlarged the funeral home, adding a beautiful new chapel, office space and several other features. The business continued to grow and was later sold to Uniservice, a corporation of funeral facilities in Washington and Oregon. The corporation is now a part of the Dignity Memorial network of funeral providers.
