Betsy Williams Cook

Betsy Williams Cook, 91, passed away on April 16, 2011. She was born in Newnan, Georgia on September 22, 1919, the daughter of William Frank Cook and Bess Williams Cook. She moved to Savannah, Georgia at a young age where she started school and then moved to West Point, Georgia. She graduated from Wesleyan College and received her master's degree from Emory University. She taught school for 41 years, beginning in Chipley, Georgia and retiring from the Cobb County School System. She served as national president of Kappa Kappa Iota, a professional organization for educators, in 1980-81. She was a devoted member of Peachtree Road United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. Her church and the activities and devoted friends she had there brought great joy throughout her life. Out of her church family developed a loving and caring friendship with Grace and Gene Sanders, Rev. Beth Sanders, Catharine Sanders, and her kind and loyal church visitors, John and Emily Leeson. She is survived by her niece, Jane Williams Cook, Carrollton, GA; three nephews: William Frank Cook, III, Carrollton, GA, Luck Singleton Cook, Marietta, GA, and Thomas Hobgood Cook and wife Terri, Farmington, NM; and sister-in-law, Angie Luck Cook, Carrollton, GA. Her parents and brother, William Frank Cook, Jr., preceded her in death. During the final years of her life, she was fortunate to be under the faithful care of Banu Ulla. A celebration of her life will be held in the chapel at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church on Wednesday, the twentieth of April at eleven o'clock in the morning. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Marseilles Cemetery, West Point, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, Music Ministry, 3180 Peachtree Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30305. Arrangements under the direction of H.M.
