Joan “Joni” Varshal, age 81 of Austin, Texas transitioned peacefully on Friday July 27, 2018 surrounded by the love of her family. Joni was born on September 9, 1936 in Hammond Indiana to Carl and Grace Horlbeck. She attended Valparaiso University and also Beauty College. Joni was a beautician for many years and enjoyed tennis, painting, quilting, crocheting, playing bridge, being a crossing guard, annual trips up north, visiting with her many friends, spending time with family, especially her grandkids Jacob, Jennifer, Megan and Katie, along with great grandson Leon and all our family dogs.
Joni is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” Varshal, along with their three children: Eldest son Bob Varshal Jr. and his wife Judy and their children, Jacob and wife Angela, Jennifer and husband Bill, grandsons Leon and Sidney, Son Tom Varshal and his wife Alona, Daughter Linda Maurer and husband David, along with their children, Megan and Katie.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Seton Northwest, Seton Downtown and Cedar Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Facility for their incredible care of Joni, as well as the Encompass hospice team that are angels here on earth.
