Gary L. Smith, 69, of Bartonville, Illinois, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. He was born on January 28, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois to Edward and Emily (Anderson) Smith. He married the love of his life, Judy Hood on April 28, 1966 in Lancaster, Missouri. She survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Amy (Lee) Empey and Leslie (Joe) Walker; eight grandchildren; four sisters and one brother. His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, Illinois for the past 25 years. His love for the Lord, His family and horses was evident in his daily life.
Gary retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 1999 after 32 years of service.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at the Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel. Pastor Greg Ogle will officiate. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 pm at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church in Canton or to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
