Sidney Lee Smith was born on April 17, 1927, and died at 12:20 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor following a lengthy illness at age 82. He fought a courageous battle always caring for his wife, his son, his three grandsons whom he adored and his precious great-grandchildren. He was a supervisor for Stevens Ready Mix for 45 years. Sidney was a native of Alto, Texas, and a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, July 17, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the religious service in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Estelle Linder Smith; son, George D. Sibley, of Baton Rouge; grandsons, Glenn F. Sibley and wife Julie, of Bentonville, Ark., Scott J. Sibley and wife Melane, of Roswell, Ga., and Todd Lee Sibley and wife Erika, of Denham Springs; five great-grandchildren, Meagan, Noah, Anthony, Jamie Lee and Geralyn Sibley; mother of his grandchildren, Geralyn A. Penn; brothers-in-law, Melvin A. Porche and Rudolph Coleman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Silas and Lillie Mann Smith; and two sisters, Emma Lou Porche and Effie Coleman. Pallbearers will be Glenn, Scott and Todd Lee Sibley, Ernest "Tinker" Linder, Myron Coleman and Jimmie Kleinpeter. Lee loved life and was an adoring grandfather. The family would like to thank all those individuals who were part of supporting Lee in his final days.
