My Father: A eulogy to Ildefonso Candelario from Jasmin Candelario.

Sunrise: August 24, 1949

Dad, You are the apple of my eye! As a little girl, I remember you laughter and your big heart. In the toughest of times you always found the positive and in the best of times you always lived in the moment. You were known as a jokester and were quite the comedian. I remember how you enjoyed driving mom crazy with your pranks. I guess this comes with being the youngest of 10 siblings and always looking for the attention of the older brothers and sisters. You found joy in driving Titi Doris crazy.

You left a lasting impression on everyone you came across! You taught me many valuable lessons- always be kind to people, be compassionate and take care of others. You were the most selfless person and would give the shirt off your back to help others in need. You were regarded by your neighbors, friends and family. You were loved by your nieces and nephews-Junior, Maria Isabel, Jeannette, Rosita, Pepito, Tesianne, Tita and the list can go on and on and on.

You loved my siblings, Jeannette, Betty and Macho, and you provided a nurturing environment for all of us. You loved your grandkids, Brooke, Jayden, Jordan, and Raquel more than anything in this world and they loved you equally. You were my biggest fan, my confidant and the person that never passed judgement. You weren't a man of many words but you chose your words wisely. You made a significant impact on my life and the life of others.

Today, I share a passion of yours that many may not know about. You were an animal lover and rescued and rehabilitated countless cats. This goes to show just how warm and loving you truly were.

Papi: Your wisdom, your love, your kindness and your patience will always live inside of us. You have given us a gift that keeps on giving. This isn't a good bye, this is an "until we meet again". Papi, you will always live in my heart. I love you unconditionally.
