Della Ruth (Lawrence) Barnes, 80, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on July 23, 2018. She was greatly loved by many and will be greatly missed. Della was predeceased by her sister Frances (Lawrence) Graves, two brothers, Frederick and Edwin Lawrence and her parents Harvey and Emma (English) Lawrence. Della’s family was her pride and joy. Surviving are her husband of 57 years Benjamin G. Barnes and daughter Valerie (Barnes) Loveland of Delhi, NY. She leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Chelsea and spouse Kevin, Michael and spouse Betsy, Jonathan and Christopher. One great-grandson, Grant, a sister Kay Vail and several nieces and nephews will also miss her. Della was a registered nurse for 40 years, working full or part time in many types of nursing. She loved people and her greatest desire was for everyone she met to know God loves them and want them to belong to him. For many years photography was a favorite hobby. She filled many albums with many photos of family, friends and places she visited. Della loved to send cards and write notes to encourage people and to show them she cared. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Binghamton, NY for many years and served there in many children’s and women’s ministries. She had a strong love of missions and supported many with her prayers and finances.
A celebration of her life will be held at Wm. R. Chase Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, NY on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 1pm. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm until the time of service. Interment will be immediately following at Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 466 Chenango St., Binghamton, NY
