

The Honorable John Childress Calhoun, of Trussville, AL, died on November 25, 2017. Judge Calhoun was born in Birmingham, AL in 1944. He was a graduate of Hewitt-Trussville High School, Samford University, and Cumberland School of Law. He was an attorney in the Birmingham area before serving as an Alabama Circuit Judge in Jefferson County.
He was preceded in death by his parents, The Reverend John C. Calhoun, Sr. and Hazel Meadows Calhoun. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Harriott Dixon Calhoun. He is also survived by two daughters and their spouses, Ashley Calhoun and Hollie Seeley of Denver, CO and Lindsay Calhoun and Michael Kmiec of New York, NY; three grandchildren, Amelia Allen-Seeley, Foster Allen-Seeley, and Owen Calhoun Kmiec; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Van and Jeannie Calhoun of Hewitt, TX and David and Ginger Calhoun of Kernersville, NC; and his nephew and niece, Joshua and Amanda of Jacksonville, FL.
Judge Calhoun was a member of an Alabama National Guard unit that was federalized and deployed to Vietnam. He was a long-term, active member of Huffman United Methodist Church. He loved and supported the community ministries of his church. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on Little Lagoon in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017, at Huffman United Methodist Church (711 Gene Reed Road, Birmingham, AL 35235), with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Huffman United Methodist Church, the Capital Fund Campaign at Camp Sumatanga (3616 Sumatanga Road, Gallant, AL 35972), or any charity of your choice.
