November 2, at Bell Trace Senior Living, Bloomington. Ms. Tomastick was born on May 2, 1941, in
Joliet, IL, to Margaret M (Martin) and Myron S Tomastick. June attended Lutheran elementary school
and public high school in Joliet and graduated from Concordia (River Forest) Teachers’ College with
a degree in elementary education; she received an MLA degree in political science from Valparaiso
University and master’s degrees in voice pedagogy and theater and drama from Indiana University.
June lived in Bloomington since 1969 and worked at Indiana University Registrar’s Office and
Department of Music, where she accompanied ballet classes and served on the opera crew for the
Musical Arts Center, retiring in 2016.
Ms. Tomastick was a chorus member for IU productions of Showboat and Fiddler on the Roof, taught
piano lessons to young students, and played the organ for Simpson Chapel UMC. June especially
enjoyed reading about current events, going to movies at the Von Lee Theater, listening to music
programs on WFIU, watching British television series on Masterpiece Theater, and visits to Germany
and France.
Ms. Tomastick was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by many friends and
acquaintances who enjoyed her beautiful smile, keen intellect, quick wit, musical talents, and
Halloween costumes. June was especially loved and assisted by friends John and Nancy Maylath
and their sons Jeremy and Matthew, Philip Hanley, Michael Kaczorowski, Barbara Roberts, Steve
Fiess, Dennis Long, Bert and Monica Clemons, Mary Meyer, the Walls/Lockhart Family, and by
Members of Simpson Chapel UMC. Special thanks to Comfort Keepers, Elder’s Journey, Garden
Villa, and Bell Trace caregivers and staff who provided services for June at different times from May
2016 to November 2019.
A funeral service and life celebration for Ms. Tomastick will take place on Saturday, November 16,
11:00 a.m., at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 East Third Street, Bloomington. Burial will
be in the Old Simpson Chapel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate in June’s memory to the
charity of your choice.
