

Marguerite Joy Burrows (Behning), passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, in Montesano, Washington, at the age of 91. Born on April 11, 1933, in Scobey, Montana, she was the fourth of six children to August E. Behning and Ruth G. Behning (Blair). Raised in Duluth, Minnesota, Joy moved to Bremerton, Washington at the age of 18. It was here that she met her husband, Albert C. Burrows, and they married in 1958. After Al got out of the Navy, they made their home in Kitsap County until 1978. They lived in various cities across Washington, finally settling in Montesano to be closer to family.
Joy was a homemaker but also waitressed for many years in Kitsap County, serving at establishments such as the Arista, Elks, Bernie’s Smokeshop, Travelers, and Sammy’s Cafe. She also briefly owned and operated the Cougar Kitchen Café in Silverdale.
Joy was a strong minded and independent woman. She had many interests, she was passionate about genealogy, knitting, crocheting, needlework, and gardening. She was always crocheting or knitting blankets and small caps for babies and donating them to the community. She had a deep love for history and enjoyed traveling—Scotland being one of her most favorite destinations. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a true animal lover, and was always feeding and caring for the critters in her neighborhood.
Joy is survived by her children, Thomas (Elaine) Burrows, Jay (Linda) Burrows, Albert (Tina) Burrows Jr., Kathleen (Craig) Bjorkheim, and Craig (Kelli) Burrows; 17 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Albert C. Burrows; her son, Timothy Patrick Burrows; and her grandson, Austin Clark Burrows.
The Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton, WA, is assisting the family with arrangements. Joy's life and legacy will be remembered for her generosity, determination, and love for her family.
