David was born on January 12, 1961, in Bryan, Texas and was the oldest child of Malcolm W. Martin and the late Patricia (Fridel) Martin. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School through 8th grade and Stephen F. Austin School for 9th grade, then graduated from Bryan High School in 1979.
David cherished spending time with family and friends, especially his daughter, April, and her family. He treasured every moment with his two grandchildren, Ethan and Ava, and proudly shared stories, photos and videos of their accomplishments.
David enjoyed many hobbies, especially hunting, fishing, photography, building models, and anything related to trains. He began collecting trains at the age of 13. He spent countless hours painting and detailing model trains and did many road trips to photograph real trains. David served as President of the Bryan/College Station Model Railroad Society and Vice President of The Brazos Valley Modular Railroad Association, where he formed many lifelong friendships. With those friends, he spent years building remarkable cities and complex track systems to entertain and educate children and the public. His interest in weather led him to study and become a Skywarn Spotter. Family and friends could always count on receiving an early warning when severe weather was approaching.
David retired in 2016 from the Texas Department of Transportation after working more than 33 years, as a heavy equipment operator, helping build and repair many Texas highways and roads. He was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan and a lifelong member of the Catholic Union of Texas, the K.J.T.
