born in Bertram, Texas. She was known all her life as Nita. She passed away peacefully on Saturday, Marsh 26,
2011 at Cornerstone Hospital in Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jimmy Alson Taylor, and her first husband William Royce
Rogers.
She is survived by her husband Franklin Phelps of Spicewood. They were married May 28, 1999 in Burnet, and had
12 wonderful years together. They dated as young adults and then reunited later in life. She is also survived by her
sister Barbara Taylor Carpenter of Arkansas as well as her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nita and Bill Rogers were married on May 21, 1955 and together had 6 children. Shirley Karen Rogers Bruton and
husband Robert of Georgetown, William Scott Rogers of Granite Shoals, Michael Royce Rogers and wife Vickie of
Granite Shoals, Thomas Leslie Rogers and wife Suzanne of Spicewood, Patrick Wayne Rogers of Spicewood, Marilyn
Anne Rogers Largent of Round Rock. She is also survived by 5 stepchildren.
Grandchildren are Zachary Wayne Bruton, Rebecca Lauren Bruton, Benjamin Sloan Rogers, Samuel Slatter Lackey,
Seth Scott Rogers, Sterling Royce Rogers, Jonathan Ryan Pulliam, Rachelle Renee Pulliam Morrow, Michael Zane
Rogers, William Thomas Rogers, Tabitha Rashel Rogers, Michael Wayne Rogers, Stephen Taylor Largent and
Christopher Morgan Largent. She is also survived by 13 great grandchildren.
Nita was a homemaker for most of her life, but then worked as a salesperson/trainer at Fotomat in Austin and then a
Hardware Tester at Tellabs in Round Rock.
Her hobbies included genealogy, photography, music, reading, sewing, quilting, cooking and Texas history. She was
a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a very proud Texan. She was also a member of the
Burnet County Historic Commission and the Burnet County Heritage Society (Ft. Croghan). She loved Fort Croghan
and enjoyed dressing the part of a pioneer woman and teaching children about their heritage. She celebrated Texas
heritage with a yearly trip to the Alamo, a place she loved dearly. She was known to correct the tour guides if they
got any facts wrong. For the Texas Sesquicentennial celebration in 1986, she memorized all 183 names of the
Alamo defenders. She was responsible for getting a State Historical Marker placed at the site of the Jackson Family
Indian Massacre. A project she was very proud to be a part of.
Nita’s life will be celebrated with a service on Thursday, March 31st at 2:00 pm at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in
Burnet. A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, March 30th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Interment will follow the service and will be at Bear Creek Cemetery in Bertram.
