Milford “Mel” Earl Sutton October 9, 1928 – February 9, 2020 On the morning of February 09, 2020, Milford "Mel" Earl Sutton passed away in his home in Granite Shoals, Texas, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 91 years old - and while he didn't quite make it to his goal of 100, he made the most out of his time left taking care of his wife, Dorothea Sutton, before she passed from complications from Parkinson’s and the remainder of his life taking care of his family and extended family. He grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with two loving parents, Claude Carl Sutton and Lucy Justina (Klenke) Sutton; and four amazing siblings, Mariabelle Henry, Dorothy Hughart, James Sutton and Claude Sutton. He and his family lived through the Great Depression and while they may have been short on money, they were never short on love. He spent his days playing football and exploring his surroundings, usually on his own. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 -1976 working mainly in Intelligence, after retiring as a SMSgt. After retirement from Air Force, the next 14 years were spent with the I.R.S. in Alaska, New Mexico and finally destination of Austin, Texas before retiring and settling in Granite Shoals, Texas. He spent the rest of his days traveling, taking care of his family and enjoying life. While Mel will be remembered as a phenomenal leader in his field, he will be better remembered as the backbone of his family with a kind heart but a stern voice. To most that loved him, he will always remain Our hero, Our Papa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea A. Sutton and daughter, Linda K. Parks. He is survived by his son, Eric E. Sutton, grandson’s, Michael C. Sutton of Alaska, Dean and Patience Sutton of Australia. Grandson, Damon J. Nelson of Texas, LaTonya Champlin of Texas. He has several great-grandchildren, Tyler, Colin and Riley Nelson of Texas, Kaden Sutton of Australia and Bodey Champlin of Texas. Graveside services will be held Thursday February 13, 2020 at 3:00 pm at Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery in Killeen. Care has been entrusted to Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
