It is with great sorrow that we announce that Patricia Evelyn Bratyna (nee Winnitowy) beloved wife of Ernie Bratyna of Calgary lost her two year battle with cancer on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the age of 78 years.
Pat was born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan in 1940, where she spent her childhood. She graduated from the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital School of Nursing, and then worked in the OR in Regina for a time, before moving to Chilliwack to work in the hospital’s emergency room. It was there that she met Ernie. They were married in August of 1968 and recently shared their 50th anniversary while Pat was in the hospice. They moved to Calgary in 1969 but nursing jobs were scarce at that time, so Pat took a job as a unit clerk at the Rockyview Hospital where she worked for many years. Pat eventually became the Business Manager for the Holy Cross Emergency Physicians, a position she held until she retired.
Pat was an avid golfer, and she and Ernie had played golf at High River, Willow Park and the Elks, prior to becoming members at the Carnmoney Golf course in 1994. Pat and Ernie could be seen at the course most days throughout the season and Pat soon got to know everyone. She will be sadly missed by all of her extended Carnmoney family.
Pat is survived by her loving husband Ernie; her sister Gladys (Bart) Gray; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Carey; and niece and nephew Danielle and Christopher Carey. She was predeceased by her parents Michael and Eva Winnitowy
Ernie would like to thank the medical staff and care givers at the Southwood Hospice for the special care that Pat received during her stay.
A Funeral Service for Pat will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Pat’s name may be made directly to the Southwood Hospice, the Canadian Cancer Society, the Tom Baker Cancer Centre or any charity of your choice.
