Nancy R. Jacoby, 75, of Cary, NC and formerly of Hyde Park, NY died February 17, 2015 after a second round of metastatic lung cancer. Born August 24, 1939 in Brookfield, MO, she was the only child of the late Dorothy L. and James F. Johnson.
As a child she moved to many different towns and states with her parents as they followed work with Brown and Kinney shoe factories, eventually settling in Boiling Springs, PA. There she met her former husband, Milton “Jake” Jacoby, and they had a son. They eventually moved to NY and had two more children.
Nancy was a devoted mother and did not work outside the home until later in her life. She worked for Parisella’s flower shop for many years. Later she worked for the Community Action Agency of Poughkeepsie, NY doing what she loved most - helping people. Though she never obtained a college level education, she eventually moved on and became the Director of Emergency Services for the Poughkeepsie, NY branch of the American Red Cross. Nancy touched many people’s lives during her career and her life.
She was always known to take in strays of all types whether they were animal or a person in need. Nancy was an avid gardener all of her life and truly enjoyed creating flower gardens.
She is survived by her children, J. Scot Jacoby of Poughkeepsie, NY, Melissa Jacoby of Chesterfield, MA, and Matthew Jacoby of Cary, NC; 4 grandchildren, Brian Jacoby of Poughkeepsie, NY, Michael Jacoby of Accord, NY, and Kevin and Thomas Jacoby of Cary, NC; and her dog, Max.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road, Cary, NC starting at 1pm, followed by a memorial service at 2pm. A reception will be held after the memorial service.
The family would like to thank the staff at Transitions LifeCare for the excellent care they provided their mother at the end of her life.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial donation in Nancy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriner’s Hospitals for Children.
