Max Eugene Kirby Sr.

Max E. Kirby Sr., 86, of Indian Land, SC, passed away July 28, 2021 in his home. Born August 16, 1934 in Gaffney, SC, he was the son of Eugene D. and Fannie (Tate) Kirby. He married Ruth Wyatt on December 31, 1954 in Gaffney, SC.

He retired from Lance Packing Company aft 43 years of employment.

An avid outdoorsman, Max enjoyed fishing and gardening. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, most notably, his grandchildren.

Max is lovingly survived by his wife of 66 years, Ruth W. Kirby; children, Max E. Kirby Jr. and Robin (Ronnie) K. Strickland; grandchildren, Ronnie E. Strickland Jr., Janice Marie Strickland, Payden W. Strickland and Brandon Petrakis; great-grandson, Brantley A. Strickland; brother, Joe Dean Kirby; sisters-in-law, Amy W. Russell, Ann A. Wyatt and Jean Wyatt; brother-in-law, Joseph C. Wyatt and his wife, Becky; numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Doris Curlee and Jaquelyne Rochester; brother, Wendell Kirby; sister-in-law, Patricia W. Starnes; brothers-in-law, James P. Wyatt, Larry W. Wyatt, Robert O. Wyatt and Gilbert Russell.

The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 11:00am on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Forest Lawn West Funeral & Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Dr., Charlotte, NC. There will be a graveside service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery at 11:15 am following the visitation.
