

David Lee Belch, 85, of Charlottesville VA, died on December 7, 2018, at Hospice of Piedmont losing his short battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Born February 11, 1933 in the township of Springhill, PA; to the late Thomas Belch and Mildred Jobinger, David is preceded in death by his wife of forty years, Betty Lou Shifflett; and daughter, Laura Leigh Belch. He is survived by his son, David Lee Jones and wife Donna of Cameron WV; daughters, Debbie Yoder of Cameron WV, Erika Lynne Hanks of Youngstown, OH; brother, Joe Belch and wife Sue of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Charles L Zakaib 3rd wife Gwyneth of Springfield VA, Erica L Canacci husband Keith of Youngstown, OH, Andrew Gallardo of Youngstown, OH, Lacey Tustin of Cameron, WV, Christopher J Gallardo of Youngstown, OH, Charlotte Roadcap of Waynesboro, VA; and great grandchildren, Aiden, Lexi, David, Charlotte, Julian, Ryland, Evan, Maddie and Rosy. David served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War, the Army at Fort Meyer as part of the “Old Guard” during the Vietnam War, and retired from the Waynesboro Police Department in 1995 as a Lieutenant. David most enjoyed drinking coffee at McDonalds and Weasies with his friends. David loved being a police officer and never met a stranger; he made many friends and often was lending a helping hand. Most of all David enjoyed activity spending time with his grandchildren, taking them fishing, teaching them to swim, and encouraging them in sports and quizzing them in different areas. David was an avid Jeopardy watcher. The last 17 years of David’s life were blessed and spent with his companion and best friend, Vivi Vidrine; whom taught him how to dance and to enjoy his life to the fullest.
