Arnold served in the United States Army from 1944 to 1946. During his time in the Army he was stationed in many overseas countries as a combat infantryman and later becoming a member of Company "E" in which only 200 members were chosen. As Arnold tells the story "the criteria was exceptionally high" to be part of Company "E". He was very proud to have been part of General McArthur's Honor guard and would talk about it to his family and friends. Truitt, as his friends and family called him, was honorably discharged with the rank of Sgt. from the Army on May 5, 1946 and returned home to his family. While serving in the Army he received many decorations and citations of which he was very proud of.
Arnold "Truitt" will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
