Robert P. Selby Age: 89 Current city/state of residence: Palm Harbor, FL Formerly of: Brooklyn, NY and Portland, CT Passed away: June 5, 2017 Biographical Information Bob was a retired crane operator and a proud 50 year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Bob also was a navy veteran, who served during World War II. He was raised in Connecticut and was the oldest and last survivor of 5 children. He loved working on cars, riding motorcycles and swimming. He married Peggy Conway and had two daughters, Donna and Judy. The family moved to Brooklyn in the early 1960s and Bob thrived as a crane engineer on the New York waterfront. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, particularly about World War II, bowling and ushering at St. Ephram's church. He was proud of putting his daughters through school and that they were the first in the family to graduate from college. Bob and Peg retired to Florida in the late 1980s. Not one to sit still for long, Bob played golf and worked out at the wellness center almost every day, and he volunteered at Meese Countryside Hospital for more than a decade. But more than anything, he loved spending time with his only grandchild, Molly. Following Peg's passing in 1997, Bob moved to Highland Lakes, where he met Lois Maxwell. Bob and Lois were happily married for 10 years until Lois's passing in 2008. Through a mutual friend, Bob later met Dorothy Obal, with whom he enjoyed almost 9 years of companionship, travel, especially cruises, Friday night dinner club and walks with Dorothy's dog, also named Molly. Bob zip-lined through the jungles and snorkeled off the coast of Costa Rica at the age of 86, and continued to have an independent and active life, while dealing with some health issues that would have kept most people down. Bob was blessed with a loving group of friends and neighbors, and will be sorely missed by all.
