

Ted graduated from The Morgan School in 1954 and Dartmouth College in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army in Turkey from 1959 to 1962. After working as a civilian in Germany for several years, he moved to Washington, D.C., and worked as a Russian translator for the Library of Congress and a Russian linguist with the Office of Naval Intelligence until his retirement in 1995.
Ted is survived by his wife Charlotte Durkin Neely and his cousins Anne Swanson McQueen (Daniel) and William Neely, many brothers- and sisters-in-law, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joan Neely, and his cousin John Edward Swanson.
Ted provided guidance, encouragement, and comfort to all who knew him, especially his nieces and nephews, in whom he took a deep personal interest. They always looked forward to spending time with him. Ted and Charlotte moved to the Neely family homestead in Madison in 2002. He volunteered with the Clinton Historical Society, the Morgan Alumni Association and the Madison Archives, and traveled extensively both here and abroad. Ted also began the Drew Crew, a group of former Morgan athletes who got together several times a year in honor of Coach Norm Drew.
Visitation will be held at the Swan Funeral Home in Clinton on Friday, July 26 from 4 to 8 PM. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday, July 27 at 10 AM. Burial with full military honors will take place at the Cypress Cemetery in Westbrook immediately following the service. Donations in his name may be made to the Clinton Historical Society, P.O.
