Ann was born in Maverick, Texas on February 15, 1935, to TJ and Estelle Lee, and went home to her heavenly father on February 6, 2023. Ann grew up in a small west Texas town with two brothers and a sister with hard working parents making a life off the land. While in high school Ann was part of the girls’ basketball team and was also a majorette.
Ann met the love of her life while in school to become a secretary. Her soon to be husband was at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock. They were introduced by Ann’s sister who was dating a serviceman stationed at Reese, who thought his friend would make a perfect match for Ann. And they were. After the wedding that almost didn’t happen because of a west Texas sandstorm, Ann and Leroy left for Oklahoma for a career with American Airlines. This started their journey that would take them from Tulsa to Chicago and finally back to Texas.
Texas was their choice of home to raise their family. Ann worked as a homemaker, raising three girls along with her husband who was so ever grateful for her dedication to their family. Ann enjoyed tennis, playing for many years in doubles tournaments. She found her creative side as an artist, painting with acrylics on canvas. Landscapes and nature were her passion. Many memories were made at lake houses that were always part of their lives. Most weekends were spent at either Lake Whitney, Possum Kingdom Lake, or Eagle Mountain Lake which is where they built their retirement home. She taught her daughters to water ski and always loved all outdoor activities. She was an avid bridge player and loved the game which Leroy did not understand for many years until she got him hooked after he retired. They both then had a common past time they enjoyed with their many friends.
Ann and Leroy loved to travel, and American Airlines provided many opportunities to fulfill this dream. Many trips were enjoyed as a family with their three daughters, grandkids, siblings, and friends traveling the world. She said not long ago “there is not a place in the world I wanted to go that I have not been”. What a wonderful blessing.
Ann had a humble heart and never gave herself enough credit for her accomplishments. She did not realize her accomplishments were of the biggest magnitude that one could have and the impact she left on many lives. She was heartbroken with the passing of her husband two months ago, and after being married for 67 years, they are once again together.
Ann is survived by daughters, Jeanine (Rick) Roof of Plano, Texas. Cynthia (Albert) Alvarez of Arlington, Texas, and Kim Skiles of Arlington. Grandchildren: Tyler (Kasey) Roof, Jarrod Roof, Andrew (Kelsie) Alvarez, James (Hannah) Alvarez, Audrianna Skiles, and Ethan Skiles. Great grandchildren: Hadley, Leyton and Kayden Roof. Ann is also survived by brother Gerald Lee of Corpus Christi.
