Milton Rankin, age 80 passed away Monday, October 12, 2020 at his residence in Columbia, MS. A native of Columbia, he was a residential contractor and retired after 65 years of carpentry. Milton was of the Baptist faith and attended Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Mr. Rankin was preceded in death by his parents, John D. “Pokey” Rankin and Mildred McDonald Rankin; sister, Catherine Thornhill; brothers, Charles R. Rankin, and Tommy Glynn Thornhill; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Virginia Rankin of Columbia; a daughter, Rebecca Thompson (Wayne) of Hattiesburg, MS; son, Daniel Rankin (Mona) of Columbia; a sister, Louise Elkins (Richard) of the Pine Burr, MS community; two brothers, James Edward “Jimmy” Rankin (Sandra) of Arab, AL, and Howard Earl Thornhill (Martha) of Carriere, MS; four grandchildren, Kelly King of Hattiesburg, Robert King (Kim) of Petal, MS, Hayley Childress (Brad) of Petal, and Peyton Thompson of Hattiesburg; and ten great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 from 11 AM until 1:00 PM at Colonial Funeral Home in Columbia. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
