Marilyn was born in Florence, SC, on August 16, 1949. She was the daughter of O.M. “Boot” Dawkins Jr. and Jane Hancock Dawkins. She graduated from McClenaghan High School in 1967 and attended First Baptist Church in Florence. After graduation, Marilyn moved to Columbia, SC, to begin her career as a cosmetologist. It is there that she met the love of her life, Clyde Patrick. They were married for twenty one years. She was a loving and devoted wife. She helped Clyde manage his business, Mack’s Grocery, until his death in 2013. She and Clyde were devoted and active members of Taylor Evangelical Methodist Church in downtown Columbia. Marilyn spent the last years of her life back in Florence where she was closer to family.
Marilyn was cherished by her family and friends. She loved big and cared deeply. She would help in a moment’s notice - no questions asked. She could make anything beautiful and constantly shared her talents with others. She loved to craft and used her creativity to bless those around her. She was one of a kind in every way.
Outside of her friends and family, Marilyn treasured her dog, Maggie, who provided constant companionship in Marilyn’s final years.
Marilyn is predeceased by her father, mother, husband, her stepson, Clyde C. Patrick, III, and her special uncle, Henry Lynwood “Limbo” Dawkins.
Surviving are brothers, Derrell “Buddy” Dawkins, Douglas “Tripp” Dawkins; a niece, Amy (Kevin) Hatchell; nephews, Dylan and Kolby Dawkins; aunts, Marty (Gene) Lamb, Susan Morey, and Shirley Hancock; special cousins, Dawn Morey, Greg Hendrick and Kelly Reynolds plus many nieces, nephews, and other cousins that she loved dearly. She found great joy in her four great nephews, Manning, Myers, McCann, and Maxton Hatchell and two great nieces, Ruby Kate and Mary Reese Hatchell.
The family would like to thank the incredible team of physicians, nurses, and medical support staff of McLeod CCU.
