April 8, 1947 - May 3, 2026
On May 3, 2026, William Porter Kuchel passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on April 8, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, the youngest child of Dorothy and Harold Kuchel.
As a child, Bill moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona where he graduated from high school. He went on to attend University of Arizona in Tucson, earning a degree in Business.
After college, Bill moved to Texas to begin his career with Crown Zellerbach, where he discovered a lifelong passion for sales. During this time, he met Wanda Hughes of Marion, Alabama who would become his wife and partner for the next 50 years. Following several promotions and moves across the county, Bill and Wanda ultimately returned to Dallas for the opportunity to be a partner in Better Papers.
Bill and Wanda were married on July 12, 1975, and built a wonderful life together in Dallas, where they established their careers and raised their daughter, Ashley.
After 35 years of service, Bill retired from W.W. Grainger, where he became known not only for his dedication and professionalism, but also for the mentorship, kindness, and encouragement he extended to so many throughout his career.
Bill was an avid reader who loved traveling, photography, cruising, spending time on the water, and trying new restaurants. He had a contagious personality and whether meeting someone for the first time or reconnecting with friends, he had a way of making people always feel welcomed.
Above all else, Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He was a devoted husband and proud father but nothing brought him more joy than his role as Poppa to his granddaughter, Lauren.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Junior and Dorothy Helen (Porter) Kuchel, and his brother, Harold Glen Kuchel (“Hal”). He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Wanda Hughes Kuchel of Dallas; his daughter, Lauren Ashley Feistel (Stewart), and granddaughter, Lauren James Feistel, both of Tyler; his sister-in-law, Darlene Kuchel; his nephews, Mark Kuchel & Eric Kuchel (Adriana), and his niece Tracy Downey (Sean), all of Orange County, California.
