Karan Jayne McAdams, 80, of Oklahoma City, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2023. Karan was born on May 27, 1942, to Mary Jane Vance & Howard Dixon in San Diego, California. After relocating to Oklahoma, Karan graduated from Midwest City High School and started a wonderful family with three children, Kathi, Dana & John. In 1975, Karan found herself raising her three children alone. She knew she had to find a way to provide for her family & SHE DID JUST THAT! Karan enrolled in St. Anthony Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse. During her courses, she often worked two jobs all while attending her kid’s activities & running her household. She was so proud of her career & loved helping people. She loved nursing & specialized in labor & delivery. Years later, Karan met the love of her life, Thomas Leonard McAdams. After a short 14 year engagement (just to be sure!), they married. They enjoyed a beautiful marriage & loved their bonus children & grandchildren. They even designed & built their log cabin dream home on five manicured acres where they loved to entertain.
Karan will always be remembered for making people laugh. She never met a stranger & loved her family more than anything. She was a very talented artist from painting to rug hooking & loved gardening. She was also a huge Oklahoma Sooners fan & looked forward to every & any game. We all knew not to call during the games!
It would be important for Karan to talk about her love for God. She knew him & gave him credit for everything good in her life. She also knew how much he loves her. This brings the family so much comfort.
The family would like to sincerely express their appreciation for your love for Karan. Thank you all for reaching out by phone calls, special cards, letters & visits. And especially thank you for being here today to celebrate her.
The family would also like to recognize Shirley Spina. Shirley came to us as a registered nurse& had several years of experience caring for terminal patients. We quickly realized we got so much more! Shirley quickly became family & even took it on herself to move in with Karan. Sleeping on the couch by Karan’s room, so she could always hear her. Shirley, thank you for completing her craft projects, reading out loud for hours to her & all your gentile, loving care. You didn’t just comfort Karan, you comforted us all. We couldn’t have ordered a better nurse or compassionate human being.
Karan will always live on in our hearts, because the life of one we so dearly loved is never lost. We love you, Mom.
Karan was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Kathi Renee Collins, and husband Thomas Leonard McAdams.
She is survived by her children, Dana Miller and John Carrell, sister & brother-in-law Kathy and Guy Taylor, grandchildren; Chandler Collins, Katie Miller, Baylee & Eric Huffman, Caden Roach, Tate Carrell, Jett Carrell, Braelynn White, Zayden Atchley, Kash Snyder, Kennedy Huffman, J’Viion Roach, Elnore Huffman & bonus kids; Kelly & Sam Rogers, Jay & Debbie McAdams & Guy McAdams.
