Mauricia Ruiz Kile was born July 9, 1946 in San Benito, Texas to Julian and Maria Cleopas Ruiz. She was the baby in a large family which included San Juana Ruiz Rangel, Maria Ruiz, Julian Ruiz, and Marcelino C. Ruiz. As a child, she spent many days helping her family by working in the cotton fields of southern Texas. Even when picked up by the police and taken back to school, Mauricia would go right back to the cotton fields to work. Unfortunately, during those years, when she was 8 or 9 years of age, her mother Maria became ill and became blind due to cataracts. They were unable to afford the surgery but Mauricia didn’t allow her family to suffer. Besides caring for her mother, she stepped right up, cooking meals, cleaning, mending, and sewing. Having only a 3rd grade education and being very intelligent, she was very successful at everything she did. Later in life, she even became a seamstress. At the age of 18, she lost her beloved dad, Julian, and Mauricia continued to care for her mom, Maria, and work. Then, in 1972, while working at a small factory, she met a young mechanic, David R. Kile. Was it love at first sight? Nope! David was new and had already asked out a young blonde that worked near Mauricia but then decided to ask her out next. Knowing she wasn’t the first one asked, she declined the offer. However, a few weeks later, when she got a flat tire at work and David fixed it, that event became a dinner date. They were married and welcomed their first child in 1973, David Julian, and 3 years later, welcomed Regina Richi. The family moved to Oklahoma where Mauricia became very involved in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. She became the president of the Alter Society and later when her children reached school age, she became very active in all church and school activities at SPN plus being Regina’s soccer coach for 6 years. She was very active with all church activities ----running most of them! Mauricia did all these things while working, maintaining her house, and caring for her mother, Maria. She was a very giving and thoughtful person. As time went on, she became a grandmother which was such a blessing to her. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and became like a second mother to Blake, Chandler, Rainie, Skyler, Sophia, and Gabriel. Because she was always there for them, they got to experience first-hand her motherly nature. It was unfortunate that Mauricia developed many health issues. She had open-heart surgery after the birth of Regina to repair a hole in her heart. Thankfully, it was a success. In later years, high blood pressure brought on kidney failure followed by 2½ years of dialysis before being gifted with a matching kidney in 2014. Her health stabilized after the transplant. Then later, she developed breathing issues that made her dependent on oxygen. Despite all her past medical issues, her passing is a huge shock for everyone. She will be missed by her family, friends, and neighbors in her apartment building.
