Calvin E. Nevin, WWll Veteran, Bert to all of those who knew him, passed into our Lord’s hands this past Monday April 20, 2020 at his home in Geneva, Illinois. Marjorie Nevin, his devoted wife of 40 years, survives Bert and is lovingly cared for by her daughter Julie Oda and family who live in nearby Naperville.
Bert and Marge were longtime residents of Naperville before retiring to Greenfields of Geneva. They both were active members in their church at Knox Presbyterian. Together they worked as Realtors in the community and enjoyed their combined families. They have five children and spouses, Jayne and Whitney Lawrence, Jeffrey and Carrie Nevin, Jeff and Beth Glander, Scott and Shelly Glander, Julie and David Oda and thirteen grandchildren and spouses, Allison (Kevin) Bailey, Whitney (Jenna) Lawrence, Holland (Amanda) Lawrence, Connor, Dylan and Sean Nevin, Jordan and Brennan Glander, Michael and Katie Glander, Dara (Gabe) Speiller, Marc and Betsy Oda. And they were even blessed with three great-grandchildren, Bryce and Raya Bailey and Emory Lawrence.
Bert had many endearing qualities that we can all hope to engender. He was a man of faith, a passionate romantic, humorist, artist, patriot, beloved husband, father, granddad and great-grandpa. With everyone he encountered Bert would say a kind word, do a good deed, or lend a shoulder for comfort. He would not let the sun set without turning a frown into a smile. After years of trying to achieve this same giving spirit his son, Jeffrey, asked him the secret. He replied, “It’s only a matter of seeing the good Lord in all of us and letting Him act through you”.
In the guestbook, please share your own story of how this wonderful man touched your life.
He will be forever missed and held dear in our hearts. May we each live our lives with love of God, Country and Family in his honor.
We salute you, Bert, one last time.
A committal service with full military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery and will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in his memory to the Gary Sinise Foundation https://www.garysinisefoundation.org/
