On January 19, 2020 Leola Pottage of Edmonton, AB passed away at the age of 93 years. Leola was born in Castor, AB to Earl and Elbra Slemp on September 24, 1926. She was raised on a farm outside of Fleet, AB with her 3 siblings. After graduation, she attended school in Calgary to become a teacher. Her first teaching position was in a one room schoolhouse in Merna District where she met Earl Pottage. They were married on July 24, 1946 and celebrated 72 years of marriage prior to his passing. In 1948, Earl and Leola moved to Crescent Spur, BC and in 1949 they started their family. In 1964, Earl and Leola moved their family to Edmonton where Leola was a proud homemaker and mother, although she did some substitute teaching and part time work when the children started school. Once the children were out of the house, she joined Earl in his Real Estate business as his secretary and chauffeur. They worked together until age 87 when Earl was ready to retire.
Leola was a proud mother of Gary (Marilyn), Wesley (Judi), Marilyn, Joanne and Elaine (Marten); grandmother of 12, and great-grandmother of 11. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 24th at 11:00a.m. at Hainstock’s Funeral Home (9810 – 34 Ave., Edmonton, AB). In lieu of flowers, please contribute to a charity of your choice in honour of Leola.
