Frederick Orville Winders Jr.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, Frederick O. Winders, Jr., of Parrish, Florida, a loving husband, father, grandpa, and great-grandpa, passed away at the age of 79. Fred was born on April 12, 1945, in Indianapolis, IN, to Frederick O. Winders, Sr. and Alberta May (Baker) Cooter. He graduated from Bloomington High School in 1963 and married Shirley Ann (Baxter) Winders on August 5, 1966. They raised two sons, Aaron and Brian, and a daughter, Alisa.

Fred was deeply devoted to his faith and served actively in his church, teaching youth groups and participating in the young men's ministry (Royal Rangers) for many years. Family was of utmost importance to Fred, and he was highly involved in his children's lives, whether serving as President of the Band Boosters, being on the Athletic board at Palmetto High, or coaching basketball at Bradenton Christian. He was a strong role model for many young adults in the community over the years. Fred also owned and operated Winders Lawn and Irrigation for 41 years. Additionally, Fred had a passion for oil painting and basketball and was a big fan of IU Basketball and NASCAR.

Fred was preceded in death by his father, Frederick O. Winders, Sr., mother Alberta May (Baker) Cooter, stepfather Merl Cooter, and his loving wife Shirley Ann (Baxter) Winders. He is survived by his three children, Aaron J Winders of Parrish, FL, Brian L Winders of Parrish, FL, Alisa R Winders Smith (James) of Ellettsville, IN, and one sister Helen Jean Matthews, Parrish, FL. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kim Reynolds, Macala J Heller (Matt), Jared D Winders, Hayley Winders and her fiancé Charlie Rector, Riley J Smith, Bailey A Smith, and great-grandchildren Robby Reynolds, Carolyn Reynolds, Baelon Rector, Rhysand O. Heller, Arawyn Rector, and another Heller on the way, as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Groover Funeral Home at Mansion Memorial Park, 1400 36th Ave East, Ellenton, FL, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at The Source Church, 3607 US Highway 301 North, Ellenton, FL at 1:30 PM, with a viewing before the service starting at 12:30 PM.
