Captain Marc E. Thiboutot, FRFD Retired, age 74 of Fall River, passed away July 30, 2021 at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. He was the husband of Kathryne A. “Kate” (O’Donnell) Thiboutot, to whom he had been married for 24 years.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Octave R. and Marie Berthe (Cote) Thiboutot, he was a 1965 graduate of Monsignor Prevost High School in Fall River and later went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree from Southeastern Massachusetts University in Business Administration.
Captain Thiboutot was a 35 year veteran of the Fall River Fire Department, serving the last 20 years as Captain. He was the Assistant City Fire Marshall for 19 years, former President, 1st Vice President and 2nd Vice President and member of the Massachusetts Fire Prevention for 18 years, Board Member of the Fall River Permanent FireFighters Association, Chairman of the Chamber Public Safety Committee from 1993 to 1996 and was a Fire Science Instructor at Bristol Community College for 16 years. Until his passing he was the current Fall River Fire Commissioner.
He was a United States Marine Corps Veteran serving during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968.
Marc, along with his brothers Rene and David owned and operated the former Down Under in Fall River for several years.
Involved in the Fall River community, Marc was a member of the Greater Fall River Diabetes Association for 23 years, serving as Director from 1993-1996, Board Member of Fall River Recreation, the United Way, Fall River Celebrates America Committee and received the Fall River Five Cents Hometown Hero Award in 1995. If he was not serving his community he could be found at the golf course as he was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife Kate, Marc is survived by his two daughters, Susan Thiboutot and her husband John Chicharro as well as their daughter, Alexandra “AJ” Chicharro of Fall River and Amy Thiboutot and her longtime companion George Mckeon and his children Tabitha Welch, Kylah Mckeon and Kasey Mckeon of Rehoboth; two brothers Rene Thiboutot of Fall River and David Thiboutot of Rehoboth; a sister Suzanne Thiboutot of Arizona and many nieces and nephews.
Marc was the brother of the late Madeleine Marois, Henri Thiboutot and Gloria Thiboutot.
His Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at 9am am from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Cherry Place, 178 Winter St., Fall River followed by his Funeral Mass at 10am in Holy Name Church, 709 Hanover St., Fall River. His Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8pm in the funeral home.
