Shirley Rae Barrentine Ruffin Fogle, age 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday ~ August 31, 2019 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, North Carolina . Shirley was a born again Christian who greatly loved her Lord and Savior. She was a devout KJV Baptist. Shirley loved her daughters and family unconditionally above anything else on earth. Her family is going to miss her cooking, shopping, setting the example and standards of life with them, but most importantly, they will miss being able to call her up on the phone and talking to her. Her daughters will always remember that she was always dressed to the “T” and smelled wonderful and always had her hair and nails well styled and manicured. On the outside, Shirley had a strong, classy and sassy demeanor about herself, but on the inside, she was a humble, giving lady to all who knew her. She was a proud member of the York Rescue Squad for many years. One of Shirley's favorite daytime pleasures was watching the Young and Restless. She is going to missed dearly by her family and friends.
Those left behind to cherish Shirley's memories and carry on her legacy are her five daughters and sons in law: Sharon and Buckie Robert Matthews of Georgia, Kathy and Bobby Goforth of Clover, South Carolina, Clara Painter of Gastonia, North Carolina, Henrietta and Gerry English of Charleston, South Carolina, Wendy and Peter Braswell of El Paso, Texas; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; three sisters.
Shirley was the daughter of the late Staley Barrentine and Carrie McDonald Barrentine. Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her two husbands, Henry Ruffin who passed away in 1986 and Ralph Fogle who passed away in 2005, one son in law: David Painter, one sister and five brothers.
A private inurnment will be held at a later date.
