With fondest memories, you will be remembered and thought about.  Richard you enriched our lives in so many ways that it enhanced our soul. Hello Richard,

It's Jim, your brother-in-law. Bea and I wanted to talk to you one last time. It got kind of crazy in the hospital the last week and after all these years, we just didn't get the chance to say what was on our minds. More about that later.
I might know you better than most. Remember, in 1989 I lived with you. Just for a month or two but I did live with you. Hell, that was tougher than my combat tour. You are one tough son-of-a-gun. I say that with a smile.
You are the first sibling any of us has lost, either your Family or mine. I'm normally pretty good at this but it's hard. I'm not good at funerals. As you might remember, I worked in a hospital for a little while and there were some tough moments. And of course, I lost quite a few friends and squadron mates over the years through crashes and combat. Bea has borne up well but there still is a lot to do. She misses you greatly. 
Hayden was very strong at the hospital but he misses you greatly too. He is a sensitive young man and he loved you. After you left, Hayden looked at his Father and said “I don't have anything from him.” Derek took him to your house and they were picking up a little bit. Derek saw your Marine Corps blanket and he told Hayden to pick it up. Hayden did and looked at Derek. “What am I supposed to do with it?” Derek told him it was now his to keep. Hayden never said another word – he just wrapped his arms around it and held it tight. That night he slept under it. It was a hot night but he slept under it. He misses you.
We will have a celebration of life with your family, friends and neighbors. We will remember you. 
I do have a problem. There is anger in my heart. It's going to take a while to get over this…if I do. And that is the cause. You were a good Marine, enlisting in 1962 and becoming part of an aircrew on the C-117 in 1966 during your year in combat in the Vietnam war. You then separated from the Corps and worked for Honeywell all those years. Was it Honeywell?
Eight years ago the neighbors found you on the lawn of your house – you had suffered a stroke. It took them a while to figure out the cause but they did – Agent Orange. You had been poisoned by your country. I knew right then it was a battle you could not win. I think Bea knew too. She was a good soldier too all these years with two more strokes and all the hospitals and care centers. She is a good sister. But I don't know whether the anger inside of me will go away.
I hope this letter gets to you. We hope you have now found peace. We will not forget you. God Bless you Richard,…And May God Bless America.
