Whitfield, Sylvia Elaine, of Spring Park, MN, passed away peacefully on June 3rd, 2020, at the age of 92. She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as well as her husband, Harold, and daughter, Sandra. She spent her last hours listening to her favorite music with family at her bedside. Sylvia was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was an exceptional cook and her favorite recipes will be kept alive through her children & grandchildren for generations to come. Her love and devotion to family was unfailing, primarily through the never ending acts of service she did. She showed her deep love for others in ways that were subtle, never wanting or expecting recognition. She had a sweet, kind and gentle nature, laced with humor and wit. She also was known for her stubbornness and strength of character. She was Lanesboro High School’s Homecoming Queen in 1944 and graduated with Salutatorian distinction in 1945. After High School she chose a career in Nursing, graduating from Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN, 1949. Nearly her entire career was at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, as a labor & delivery nurse, where she was introduced to Harold, a hospital pharmacist. They were married in 1961. Her passion for nursing was strong and influential. Her daughter and two granddaughters followed in her footsteps and became nurses, creating a unique and wonderful bond between them. Additionally, she was very passionate about music. Virgil Fox organ music and church hymns assisted the peaceful transition into her heavenly life.
Sylvia is survived by her two children, John (DeeAnn) Whitfield and Kathy Whitfield; grandchildren, Brent Ott, Brittany Geisen (Ott), Brooke Ott, Grace Whitfield, Lauren Whitfield; sister, Arlene Staupe (Anderson); and great grandson, Winston Geisen. Preceded in death by daughter, Sandra Whitfield; husband, Harold Whitfield; and brother, Roger Anderson. There will be a private outdoor Memorial Service in her honor, in celebration of her long and wonderful life. Consistent with her love of flowers and gardening, memorial donations can be made to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum in Chaska.
