

Walter Eben Smith was born July 20, 1937 to parents, Jerome James Smith, Sr. and Lora Mae Duncan of Colfax, LA, who preceded him in death along with his brother, Jerome James Smith, Jr. He leaves behind two sisters, Neysa Sandra Smith Harlan and her husband, Ronald of Boulder, Colorado and Madeline Sidone Nichols of Gonzales and a brother, Robert Gray Smith and wife Beverly of Marshall, Texas. Walter attended school in Montgomery, LA where he was raised; he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged on the 30th day of May, 1966. He went to work for Uniroyal and retired from there. He enjoyed his many nieces and nephews and hunting and fishing, and eating out. He was a member of the American Legion Post 81 and Woodmen of the World. A special thanks goes out to his care givers at St. Elizabeth and Our Lady of the Lake Hospitals. Pallbearers will be his nephew, Keith Nichols, Cliff Johnson, Harold Morel, Joe Blanchard, Ian Dixon, and Charles Dixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Jobie Leslie, Ronald Harlan, and Brett Harlan. Visitation will be at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 from 5 pm to 9 pm. Visiting will continue at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 from 8 am until services in the chapel at 9 am. Burial will be at Colfax Cemetery, Colfax, LA at 1:30 pm on Wednesday. He was a beloved brother and friend to his neighbors. He will be missed by all who knew him.
