Funeral Mass is under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas and will be held on Friday, May1, 2020 at 2:00 pm at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Waelder, Texas with Father Stan Fiuk officiating. Interment will follow at Waelder Community Cemetery. Visitation will be at Buffington Funeral Home on Thursday, April 30, 2020 from 4:00 pm till 9:00 pm with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm with Deacon Alfonso Moreno officiating.
Benito was born on September 30, 1944 in the ranch of Villa Verde Matamoros Tamaulipas, Mexico. He was the son of Benito and Hortencia (Barrera) Vela, Sr. He married Maria Luisa Cardenas in 1972 and they would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary in September. They migrated to the USA in 1981 in search of a better life and opportunities for his family. Benito was full of life and joy. He always brought the laughs to family gatherings, where there was never a dull moment. Bring out the dice, and benito was ready to play and gamble, but you had to watch him because he’ll get you. Benito was such a giving person, he would give you his last dollar and the shirt off his back. He was loved by so many.
Benito, You are greatly missed. Until we all meet again, rest in paradise.
Benito is survived by his loving wife of 48 years; Maria Luisa Vela, five children; Rosa Villegas and her husband Joel, Benita Vela, Marco Antonio Vela, Delfa Granados and her husband, Mario, Eberardo and his wife, Victoria, twenty-five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents; Benito and Hortencia Vela, Sr., and one son; Heriberto Vela.
Pallbearers for Mr. Vela will be; David Airhart, Jr., Damien Airhart, Damian Vela, Alex Ford, Orlando Ford, David Lee Vela, Joel Villegas, and Patrico Licea.
