AVIS DE DÉCÈS
Doranne Virginia Riggio
29 août 1936 – 18 février 2021
Doranne Virginia Riggio, 84, of Orlando, Florida passed away on February 18, 2021. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 29, 1936 to the late Theodore Zehelein & Anna Tardo. Doranne worked hard from the time she was 16 years old, and everybody saw her as an angel. By trade, she ran a tight administrative ship from Orlando Police Department to FAMU School of Law. And, she brought her other passion into the workplace in the form of coconut cheesecake cupcakes! Doranne was famously known as “The Cheesecake Lady”. She poured her love into cooking and baking for her family, friends, co-workers, anyone – she even made a sugar-free version that did not disappoint. Her Sicilian and German roots gave her mastery of the savory as well, from tomato sauce to artichokes to eggplant. When she was not cooking, Doranne was cruising. She and her family traveled all around together, and earned extra opportunities with the status they built. One of her favorite destinations was Alaska, among many others. Doranne loved God, and practiced her Catholic faith even from home when she could not go to Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church. Her adoring family and friends will forever miss her delightful spirit as well as the flowers in her hair. Doranne was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Riggio, Jr.; her beloved parents, Anna & Theodore; her brothers, Nicholas and Teddy & her sister, Margaret. She is survived by her birth, adopted and step children as well as close family members; Rina Marks (Paul), Leslie Yontz (Paul), Jaki Riggio and Rebecca Brickey. As well as her feline fur baby, Sassy. In lieu of flowers, any donations towards funeral expenses would be welcomed. Condolences may be offered in the digital guestbook below.

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Doranne at FAMU College of Law. My office was right across from her desk, and I have so many fond memories of conversations, laughter, joyous decorations for all holidays, goodies to eat, and just the overall goodness of being in Doranne’s presence. I also treasure how Doranne connected with my mother, always asking about her and sending Mom a special card for Mom’s 90th birthday. Doranne was a wonderful person. I pray that her family can take comfort in knowing how much light she brought to those who worked with her. I miss her.

Hello This is Rina, Doranne Riggio was the best mother that a daughter could ever ask for. I can not think of a time in my life , where I did not pick up the phone and speak with Mom at least 4 times a day. she always had time for me. I called her every morning when I woke up, of my able 48 years young. it just became a lifelong Habit to call her when I left to go somewhere and tell her when I was home safe, in fact she insisted on it. One of the hardest things I face today, is the urge to pick up the phone ,and not have her there to call. But but like my husband says now all I have to do is look up to heaven, and say good morning Mom We love you and will forever Miss You.......... Rina Riggio Marks & Paul Marks

I worked with Doranne at FAMI for 16 years. She was the consummate professional, with a cheerful countenance and a very good heart. She was a perfectionist in supporting the faculty with whom she worked and would not settle for anything less than her perfectionist standing. She also treated everyone with whom she interacted with kindness and respect, including students, staff, faculty, administration and visitors to the campus. She was totally trustworthy and made life easier for the faculty with whom she worked. I feel fortunate that she was a colleague and a good friend.

May my condolences bring you comfort and may my prayers ease the pain of such great loss. I was already struggling not having Doranne around at work, so I could deliver the newspaper to her and talk about sports. My fond memories of her will always be about our many basketball conversations when she was a season ticket holder of Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, and then eventually switching to the not so great Orlando Magic. Thank you for those great memories, for putting your Christmas Village at work every year and for your outstanding work ethic. I will always remember you and rest in peace, dear friend.

What a special co-worker. I'll remember all of our chats and adventures from the peppermint container mystery to our fun around your cart.
We always had something funny to discuss. Doranne was very welcoming to me as a new employee and everyone knows how important it is to feel welcomed in a new place.
Rest in peace dear friend. Job well done.

I worked with Doranne at FAMU Law School. She was always kind, considerate and compassionate. She treated students, staff and faculty with the utmost respect. She was funny, and we would share a laugh about having lived in the cold weather and though she loved Orlando, she was always a Chicago girl...her warm and kind spirit brightened up the office I will always remember her as a colleague and a friend.
