Raymon Ray N. Atherton Jr.

The Lord Jesus Christ took the hand of Raymon N. Atherton, Jr and led him through the gates to his new home on July 25, 2011. Ray filled his position as patriarch of his family with grace and calm and unconditional love. Left to cherish a lifetime of memories are his daughter, Jan Lee (Ron); sons Larry (Anne), Mike (Maryann), Garry (Alice). There are four very special grandchildren whom Ray loved: Jason, Justin, Katie and William. Also, remembering this dear, courageous man is his wife, Donna, and her son Alan Gardner. Ray’s sister, Barbara, and his nephew, Bobby, live in Pueblo, Colorado. Also left to remember great times and hard work are the monthly “Lunch Bunch”, a circle of faithful, true friends whom Ray cherished and who helped to fill his life.

He is predeceased by his children’s mother, Miriam, and his parents.

Ray was born and grew up in Maine, attended the Univ of Maine in his hometown of Orono, joined the Navy and after the Navy worked most of his adult life for the Martin Company (today, Lockheed Martin). But, his “real job” for eighteen years was on the Little League field as coach!

Ray was a servant of God and he loved the Lord. He was an anchor for his children, a faithful friend and his wife’s beloved. He was fun. He always had a listening ear and he loved great conversation. Peaceful, full of hope, determined to make every day special, he lived for people and enriched the lives of all who knew him. He loved us best when we were at our worse and needed it most.

A memorial service will be held at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 400 Woodlawn Cemetery Road, Gotha, FL on Friday, July 29th, at 2:00 P.M.

Ray’s family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Sand, Dr. Go, and the team of physicians, his very caring professional nurses on 5B at Orlando Regional, Orlando for their care, concern and tremendous help in the forty-seven days Ray was in ICU.
